The Nunavut Mining Symposium will open with welcoming remarks from community and industry leaders, setting the tone for the days ahead. Attendees will hear from the Mayor of Iqaluit, the Chair of the Nunavut Mining Symposium, and invited guests. Together, they will reflect on the importance of the mining sector to Nunavut’s economy, communities, and future development, while highlighting the value of collaboration between Inuit organizations, government, and industry. This session will officially launch the symposium and provide a shared perspective on the opportunities and priorities shaping mining in Nunavut.

This keynote brings together the outgoing and incoming CEO of B2Gold in a unique conversation that bridges past, present, and future. As one leader reflects on the journey and the other looks ahead to what comes next, this session offers a rare glimpse into how leadership transitions shape not just a company, but the future of mining in Nunavut.

Geopolitical tensions, industry, climate and shifting trade alliances are all reshaping global supply chains. From critical minerals to gold to bulk commodities, secure access to stable jurisdictions is increasingly central to economic strategies. In this keynote address, Erin Weir, a leading economist will examine how these things are redefining commodity markets, The presentation will explore how Nunavut   fit into emerging global supply chain architecture and what risks or opportunities lie ahead for Nunavut's development. Erin's presentation will be followed by a fireside chat, moderated by Adam Chamberlain.

This session will open with a keynote address from Premier John Main, outlining the priorities of Nunavut’s new government and its vision for the territory’s future. With a strong focus on workforce development, training, and capacity building, the Premier will highlight how these priorities align with the continued growth of Nunavut’s mining sector.

Following the keynote, a fireside chat with Premier Main and Minister Simailak will offer a more in-depth and conversational exploration of these themes. The discussion will examine how government, industry, and Inuit organizations can work together to expand training opportunities, strengthen local capacity, and ensure Nunavummiut are well positioned to participate in and benefit from resource development.
