Alex Buchan is Director of Nunavut Affairs at Agnico Eagle, where he has worked for
five years supporting engagement with Inuit organizations and communities across the
Kitikmeot. Raised in Pond Inlet and Taloyoak, Alex developed a strong understanding of
what community success looks like, and how sustainable economic opportunities can
help support that success. He holds a diploma in Renewable Resource Technology
from Arctic College and began his career working in wildlife management and economic
development with the Governments of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
Alex has an extensive background in the mining industry, having held senior roles with
Miramar Mining, TMAC Resources, and the Nunavut/NWT Chamber of Mines. His work
has focused on stakeholder relations, socio-economic development, employment and
training, and Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreement implementation. Alex has also been an
active community volunteer, serving as a Civilian instructor with the Army Cadet Corps,
and remains deeply committed to supporting Inuit agency and resilience across the
territory.
