Speaker Bio
Dr. Robyn Fiori is a senior research scientist at Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and the science lead for Canada’s aviation‑focused space weather services. As part of NRCan’s core responsibility to mitigate risks from natural hazards, she contributes to the Canadian Hazard Information Service (CHIS), which monitors space weather, supports national preparedness, and provides authoritative hazard information to Canadians. Dr. Fiori plays a central role in delivering operational space weather services to civil aviation users through NRCan’s partnership with NAV CANADA and as part of the Australia‑Canada‑France‑Japan (ACFJ) global space weather center designated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Her research and operational leadership focus on understanding and forecasting space‑weather impacts on navigation, communication, and aviation systems, particularly in the Canadian Arctic, where proximity to the northern magnetic pole creates unique vulnerabilities. Dr. Fiori leads and contributes to the development of aviation‑relevant space‑weather products, the refinement of impact thresholds, and the dissemination of alerts at both national and international levels. She is widely recognized for her expertise across the full chain of service delivery—from scientific analysis to operational implementation—and for her commitment to ensuring that Canada remains a global leader in space‑weather services for aviation safety.
