Name
Shipping and Marine Tourism Panel
Date & Time
Tuesday, January 13, 2026, 10:45 AM - 12:00 PM
Description

This panel looks at how cruise ships, private yachts, non-local pleasure crafts and other forms of marine tourism are affecting Nunavut communities. Panelists will speak about both positive experiences and challenges. This may include cultural exchange, local business opportunities, pressure on infrastructure, and community control over how and when visitors anchor nearby or come ashore.

The discussion will focus on what respectful tourism looks like from a community perspective, how expectations and rules are communicated to operators, and what supports are needed so that tourism enhances rather than harms community life and the environment.
